Two teams of nurses recognized for excellence in use of clinical decision support tools to advance care


LOS ANGELES, May 11, 2016 – Zynx Health™, the market leader in providing evidence and experience-based clinical improvement and mobile care coordination solutions, announced today the winner of its 2016 Clinical Improvement Through Evidence award (formerly known as the CITE award). The annual award recognizes nurses for excellence in the use of clinical decision support (CDS) solutions to drive improvements in patient care. “It’s gratifying to see what our clients are able to accomplish,” said Kevin Daly, President of Zynx Health. “This award demonstrates the commitment nurses have in delivering higher quality, more efficient patient care.”

For communication improvement, Zynx recognizes CentraCare Health’s St. Cloud Hospital. The nursing team, which was led by Jenna Czech, BSN, RN, CNRN, and Roberta Basol, MA, RN, NE-BC, leveraged content from ZynxCare® to improve language and cultural needs among an increasingly diverse patient community within St. Cloud Hospital. The team implemented an interdisciplinary care plan process to create standardized, evidence-based plans of care that improved nursing competency in caring for culturally diverse populations. Through nursing education and initiation of plans of care that were tailored to Limited English Proficiency (LEP) patient populations, they increased interpreter use by 25% and improved nursing confidence in supporting LEP patients by 24%.

For measureable outcomes, Zynx recognizes Hays Medical Center’s nursing team comprised of Carol Groen, RN, MSN, NE-BC, Arielle Simpson, RN, BSN, Blake Hillery, RN, BSN, Brian Pfannenstiel, RN, BSN, Cristina Meier, RN, BSN, Cammie Townley, RN, BSN, Carrie Newcomer, RN, BSN, Dorothy Gideon, RN, BSN, and Terry Siek, RN, MSN, NEA-BC. The nursing team wanted to reduce door-to-tPA time among patients presenting with symptoms of acute ischemic stroke in the emergency department. Utilizing the evidence-based content in ZynxCare as their source of truth, combined with strong leadership and a commitment to process improvement, they not only met the national standard goal of 60 minutes for door-to-tPA time, but exceeded it. The result: Hays Medical Center decreased their door-to-tPA time from 89 minutes to 56 minutes – 4 minutes below the national benchmark!
